Today The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur by Mike Michalowicz is available to purchase!

Mike has been through it all when it comes to being an entrepreneur. He started his first company at 24, he's slept in conference rooms to save money, he's sold a company to a Fortune 500 - the list goes on an on.

This book is all about being an entrepreneur while saving money and resources. The information and insight Mike has to share is amazing. The best part is, Mike actually has a sense of humor. Unlike most business books, this one has a humorous undertone while sharing solid information.

My blog finally has direction

If you haven't noticed, my blog hasn't really had a direction. It's just been a smattering of random stuff. The directionless blog is no more.

I've decided to talk about the internet - my views of everything internet-y. (Link to Wiki article on The Internet if you need to be filled in.)

I'll have a vlog every Wednesday and Sunday night.

Get ready. Deuces.

Here's a quick tour of my room...hope everybody had a good weekend.

I used to work at Abercrombie & Fitch...don't judge

I came across an article about how Abercrombie & Fitch discriminates on looks. In my younger years (the end of Junior year through last winter) I worked at Hollister then at A&F. Don't believe the stereotypes - I'm not a snobby, judgemental, terrible person. (I am white though - that's the only thing the stereotypes have on me. Oh. I'm pretty preppy too. Two things.)

Both were fun places to work. They give you money and all you really do is talk to people and fold an article of clothing every once in awhile. Most employees find ways to look like they're working without doing any actual work.

Everyone complains about the loud music and obnoxious smell. I really liked Hollister music and the A&F music was just alright. After being in the store for 5 minutes you get used to the overwhelming smell. However, my senses of smell and sound have probably been reduced by 20 years from working at Hollister/A&F.

Here's my take on the article: A good majority of the managers are really cool and don't judge employees, but the managers' managers - the district managers and higher - typically do.

Here's a parody of A&F on MadTV. It's super long, but just watch a couple minutes. It's pretty funny and true.

Choosing a major (several times)

Tonight on ABC Family is Greek's season premiere (9PM/8PM central). Greek is a show about college and Greek life. Some of the portrayal of Greek life is spot-on, but some of it is completely wrong.

Greek has a character named Cappie. It seems like Cappie has had every college major under the sun, because whenever anyone asks him for help, he'll say, "I can help, I used to be a phych major," or, "I used to be a bio major," or, "Let me help, I used to be a polymer science major," etc.

It seems like my college career thus far has reflected Cappie's. I'm on my 3rd major in 3 semesters.

(Pause for laughter.)

When I was in high school, I would hear the statistic like the average college student changes his or her major 7.968 times or whatever. I'd always wonder why students would change their majors so often.

I finally know. Picking a major is a huge commitment. (Which makes me wonder if guys switch majors more than girls.) Choosing (and sticking with) a major is a commitment on two levels. First, you're going to be learning your major for four years. Second, to some extent, your major is going to decide what you do for the rest of your life. That's scary!

College students - if you know what you want your major to be, great. If you don't, no worries. Try a bunch of different classes out. You'll eventually find the right fit. If you don't, I don't know what to tell you. Triple major or something.

Guest post on TPE's blog!

I have a guest post today on The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur's blog. Check it out!

For all of you newcomers who may have found me through TPE, welcome! Feel free to look around. I compare this blog to a mullet - some business, some party. If you're not a fan of the mullet, that's a little disheartening, but please continue reading!

If you're looking for business oriented posts, look for posts with the label "bidness". If you're looking for posts that really have no meaning but are awesome, look for posts with the label "party".

Now that all of that's out of the way, let's look at some current news.
  • Microsoft's marketing people are great. They're trying to one-up Mac's "hip" advertising campaign by hiring Jerry Seinfeld for their latest commercials. Don't get me wrong, I love Seinfeld and think he's hilarious, but Microsoft has no clue what they're doing. If they're trying to appeal to people my age, that doesn't really cut it. The killer: Bill Gates is going to appear in commercials with him. Uhh what? They're trying to seem "hip" by putting Bill Gates in commercials? Really? Bill Gates IS the PC guy from the Mac commercials!

  • The IOC is finally investigating the age of the Chinese gymnasts. The linked article says, "He was listed as 13 in a Nov. 3, 2007...". When I read this, I thought, That's rude. They called one of the girls a "he". Well appearently "He" is actually the girl's name, which makes me the rude one in this situation. Rough.

(Above: China's gymnasts warming up)
  • I saw The Rocker last night and now have a small celebrity crush on the girl from it. Why? Uhh...she's a rocker. That's obvious. And according to Wikipedia, she...has webdesign as a hobby!? No explanation needed.
