I created MemThem.com to teach myself Ruby on Rails, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery integration, and server administration. It was a success - I learned a ton from it.
I made the whole site by myself except for the home page, the header, and the footer. I had a designer help me with those.
You can check out this site at MemThem.com.
I made RateMyCoaches.com to teach myself PHP, database usage (particularly MySQL), and dynamic coding in general. Another success - I learned a great deal from building this site.
I built the whole site by myself, except for the CSS template. My goal was to learn back-end programming.
You can visit this site at RateMyCoaches.com.
When I was 15, I created the activism site GoHomeIHSA.com. The governing body of Illinois High School Sports (IHSA) was treating small, private schools unfairly. I made a website, blog, petition, and released several press releases. I eventually earned the right to speak at an IHSA Board of Directors meeting.
The website was a huge success. I landed articles in the Daily Herald, the Chicago Sun-Times, and many other Illinois newspapers.
The website was also featured in Glenn Reynolds' critically acclaimed book, An Army of Davids.
I was one of 50 students who were selected by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to participate in ThinkChicago, "an annual recruitment event in Chicago for the best and brightest scholars from regional universities for an introduction to local tech companies and the city."
You can read more information about it here.
Here is the Mayor's official press release about it.
I was an intern with the company that created Drawn.to and MelonCard.com. I learned Ruby on Rails, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery mobile, and server administration.
Feel free to check out Drawn.to and MelonCard.com.
MelonCard just landed a seed-stage investment round of $500,000 and has relocated to The Valley to work with 500 Startups.
You can read an article about it here.
I had an internship with AlphaZeta Interactive. I learned about the business-side of web development and I worked with the teams behind GoldCoastTickets.com, TheChicagoSchool.edu, an internal site for Aon Hewitt, and several other projects.
I am studying for a BS in Computer Science at Marquette University. I'm just a few classes away from earning it.
Relevant classes I've taken are: several Java classes, two semesters of data structures, computer hardware, operating systems, asynchronous JavaScript, programming languages, computer security, networks and internets, the history of Nineteenth Century Europe, and many more...
I coded this resume site myself, so I suppose you can consider it one of my projects. Here are some other things about me:
I'm motivated to make awesome things.
I'm a leader and a self-starter.
I'm fun. Studies show that 97% of people like spending time with me.
I love food, cooking, and trying new restaurants.
I am a stickler for making sure every little detail is perfect. In college, people had me check their English papers. (This may confuse you, as most computer science majors are least proficient in English out of the many languages they know.)
